Colorado Rocky Mountain High

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

I felt so lucky to be able to camp at Rocky Mountain National Park last July - if you have never experienced that fresh mountain air, go now! Besides ending your days with the most beautiful sunsets, you'll wake up to crisp mornings, wildlife, and stunning sunrises.

Beside camping, the hiking in RMNP is absolutely breathtaking. Waterfalls, alpine lakes, and miles and miles of views.

I definitely recommend hiking the following:

Bear Lake, Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, Emerald Lake and don't forget Alberta Falls! We were able to do all five places in one morning - and even had time for lunch at Emerald Lake! It's a beautiful park with many different hikes - but these are the 5 we focused on for this trip!

Hike info:

Bear Lake - 0.5 miles around the lake - this hike is right by the parking lot so super easy to get to!

Nymph Lake - 1.2 miles out and back

Dream Lake - 2.0 miles out and back

Emerald Lake - 3.2 miles out and back

(these trails follow the same route so it's easy to hit all of them in one hike)

Alberta Falls - once you come back down from the alpine lakes, head up to Alberta Falls - a 1.6 mile out and back trail with an amazing water fall!

Tips; if you are camping in the park [we camped at Moraine Park Campground], get up early to get a parking spot in the lot close to the trails! We arrived by 6 am and were cooking breakfast in the back of the Jeep before hitting the trailhead! We were out by noon so were able to avoid a lot of the crowds!

Loved Rocky Mountain National Park, although we didn't camp in the park. We just visited by car.
