Petit Jean State Park

Another camping trip complete! Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas was definitely one of my favorite campsites. We spent three nights in the park which was plenty for us to explore, hike, and spend time around the campfire at night.

Because Petit Jean is such a popular state park, I highly recommend planning in advance to make sure you can get a spot! We love cooler weather camping, so Fall is our preference - but that is also a busy time because the leaves are starting to change colors and it's a beautiful time to be there.

The park has numerous trails you can hike - varying lengths and skill levels and these are some of our favorites!

1. Bear Cave is an easy .25-mile hike and is filled with huge rocks and shelters - it's fun to explore here!

2. Cedar Falls Trail is a 2 mile out and back trail filled with stone boulders and ends with a 95-foot waterfall at the end. I would rate this trail at moderate because of the steep elevation gain when returning to the start.

3.Rock House Cave Trail is another .25-mile trails and features a very large rock shelter - one where you can view Native American rock art over 500 years old. Along the way you'll notice Turtle Rocks -unique rocks which look like the shells of turtles.

4. Seven Hollows Trail if a 4.5-mile loop featuring a natural stone arch, rock shelters, bluffs, a box canyon, and dense hardwood forests. It was a beautiful hike!

If you aren't into tent camping (there are 125 campsites), there is a lodge with 24 rooms and 33 cabins you can rent. Lake Bailey tops 100 acres and is great for fishing, kayaking, or pedal boating. There is a restaurant at the lodge; an ice cream shop and general store, and a cute coffee place located right inside the park.
